KarlHeinz Tetzlaff (1938 2014)

Karl‐Heinz Tetzlaff (1938 ‐ 2014) published this web site in German. His final editing was in August 2014.

Karl‐Heinz spent his career working as a chemical engineer at Hoechst AG where he was responsible for the development of Fuel Cells and Electrolysers. He also had long experience of chemical processes and was responsible for the estimation of costs to bring innovative processes to production.

Karl‐Heinz realised very early that distributed generation at end users using fuel cells would be far more efficient than in centralised power stations. He also realised that steam reforming which had been used used to produce petrol from coal could be modified to produce hydrogen using biomass as a feedstock instead of coal.

He set about lecturing and lobbying to spread the understanding of these principles. While doing this he wrote a book "Wasserstoff für alle" which he distributed to those showing interest.

He became concerned that vested interests among vehicle makers and oil producers might patent some of the ideas he was working up in detail in order to protect their established business. He and some friends therefore founded H2‐Patent GmbH both to promote and develop these principles and also to patent key details to ensure that these interests could not take out blocking patents.
